Kentucky’s own unique stew, known as “burgoo,” is a Kentucky tradition well over a hundred years old. No two cooks make burgoo the same way…in the old days, cooks used whatever meat was convenient–anything from venison to wild squirrel or game birds...or maybe a little be of possum...ha!

Lyrics

When its suppertime there’s no better place to be
Than a table in Kentucky with friends and family

Simmer slow throughout the day
There’s nothing like the old way

Let’s taste the burgoo!
Break the bread and bring out the brew
Much more than soup in a bowl
Give a try and you’ll know

Potatoes, carrots, corn and don’t forget the meat
Try chicken, rabbit, or squirrel just anything with feet

Simmer slow throughout the day
There’s nothing like the old way

Let’s taste the burgoo!
Break the bread and bring out the brew
Much more than soup in a bowl
Give a try and you’ll know

Break

They come from miles around
For mama’s recipe
It’s surly the best in town
Just wait and see

Let’s taste the burgoo!
Break the bread and bring out the brew
Much more than soup in a bowl
Give a try and you’ll know
Oh, oh, oh

Let’s Taste the burgoo!
Break the bread and bring out the brew
Much more than soup in a bowl
Give a try and you’ll know
